The optimiser exploits every opportunity in the energy market to reduce your bill.
Rate Arbitrage
On variable tariffs like Octopus Agile, electricity prices change every 30 minutes. We charge your battery during the cheapest slots (often as low as 5-10p/kWh) and discharge during peak prices (25-35p+). The bigger the spread, the bigger your savings.
Solar Self-Consumption
Without optimisation, excess solar is exported at low rates (around 5p/kWh). Joule Genie stores your surplus solar in the battery and uses it later when import rates climb to 20-35p/kWh, capturing the full price difference.
EV Smart Charging
When your vehicle is plugged in, the optimiser identifies the cheapest rate windows before your departure time and schedules charging into those slots. For a large EV battery, this can save several pounds per charge session.
