Real-time monitoring of Huawei SUN2000 hybrid inverters via the FusionSolar Northbound (OpenAPI) interface. Battery SOC, solar generation, and grid flow data.
Getting Started
Connect your Huawei SUN2000 hybrid inverter to monitor real-time solar generation, battery state of charge, and grid flows in Joule Genie. Note that the FusionSolar Northbound API is monitoring-only — timed charge scheduling is not available via the public cloud API.
Step 1: Create a Northbound API Account
The FusionSolar Northbound API requires a dedicated API account — this is different from your regular FusionSolar portal login.
- If your installer manages your FusionSolar account: Ask them to create a Northbound API account for you in the FusionSolar portal under System > Company Management > Northbound Management > Add. Give the account a username (which cannot be the same as any FusionSolar portal username) and set a password of 8–32 characters.
- If you are the company admin: Log in to your FusionSolar portal and navigate to the Northbound Management section yourself.
- Can't access Northbound Management? Contact eu_inverter_support@huawei.com for help getting API access set up.
Step 2: Find Your Regional Endpoint
The FusionSolar API uses a regional endpoint that matches your FusionSolar portal login URL. Common prefixes:
- eu5 — most European accounts (portal URL: eu5.fusionsolar.huawei.com)
- intl — International accounts (portal URL: intl.fusionsolar.huawei.com)
- la5 — Latin American accounts
To confirm, look at the URL when you log in to the FusionSolar portal — the prefix before ".fusionsolar.huawei.com" is your region.
Step 3: Add the Integration in Joule Genie
In Joule Genie, go to Settings > Integrations > Add Integration and select Huawei SUN2000 from the Inverter category. Enter your Northbound API username, password, and region prefix. Click Find my inverters — Joule Genie will connect to FusionSolar and list all SUN2000 inverters on the account.
Step 4: Select Your Inverter and Verify
Select your inverter from the list. The serial number and plant name are shown to help identify the correct device. Within a few minutes, the dashboard will show real-time solar generation, battery SOC, and grid flows.
API Limitations
- The FusionSolar Northbound API is read-only for charge scheduling. Battery charge windows are configured through the FusionSolar app or the inverter's web interface.
- The API enforces a rate limit of approximately 1 request per minute. Joule Genie respects this automatically.
- Data in the FusionSolar cloud updates every 5 minutes.
Troubleshooting
- "Login failed"? Check that you are using the Northbound API username/password (not your regular FusionSolar portal login). These are separate accounts.
- No inverters found? Ensure the Northbound API account has been authorised to access your plant in Northbound Management, and that your inverter is registered and online in FusionSolar.
- Region not working? Confirm the region prefix matches your FusionSolar portal login URL — try "eu5" or "intl" if unsure.
