In Testing EV Charger

Monitor and control Hypervolt 2.0 and Hypervolt 3 EV chargers — schedule charging into your cheapest tariff slots, with live charge mode and lock status surfaced on the dashboard.

Getting Started

Connect your Hypervolt charger to monitor live charge status, lock and unlock the charger remotely, and let Joule Genie schedule charging sessions during the cheapest periods on your tariff.

Step 1: Set Up the Hypervolt App

If you haven't already, download the Hypervolt app (available on iOS and Android) and sign in with your account. Make sure your charger is commissioned, appears in the app, and is showing as Online before proceeding. Your charger must be connected to your home Wi-Fi and reporting back to the Hypervolt cloud.

Step 2: Add the Integration in Joule Genie

In Joule Genie, go to Settings > Integrations > Add Integration and select Hypervolt from the Charger category. Enter the email address and password you use to sign in to the Hypervolt mobile app. Joule Genie will list all chargers registered to your account.

Step 3: Select Your Charger

Choose your charger from the list. The serial number is shown to help identify the correct device if you have more than one. If you only have a single charger it will be selected automatically.

Step 4: Verify Connection

Within a few minutes the dashboard will show your charger's lock status, charge mode, and live power draw when a session is active. When your EV is plugged in, the optimiser will schedule charging into the cheapest rate slots on your tariff.

Supported Features

  • Real-time charger state (idle, plugged in, charging, locked)
  • Live charge power (W) during an active session
  • Charge mode read-back (Eco, Boost, Super Eco)1
  • Start and stop charging on demand
  • Schedule-driven session control from the optimiser

Notes & Limitations

  1. Per-session energy is not reported by the Hypervolt cloud API. Joule Genie estimates session energy from the live power feed and charging duration; long, intermittent sessions may drift from the figure shown in the Hypervolt app. We are tracking this with Hypervolt for a future API change.
  2. Solar-aware charge mode cannot be set remotely. Joule Genie reads the current mode but cannot switch the charger between Eco / Super Eco / Boost — the Hypervolt API does not expose a write endpoint for charge mode today. Set your preferred mode once in the Hypervolt app and Joule Genie will respect it.

Troubleshooting

  • "Authentication failed"? Hypervolt accounts use the same credentials as the mobile app — if you can sign in there, the same email and password should work here. If you signed up via Apple or Google in the mobile app, set a password under Account > Sign-in methods in the Hypervolt app first.
  • Charger not appearing? Ensure the charger is online in the Hypervolt app (the charger LED ring should be lit, not pulsing red). Chargers that are offline at the time of setup may take a polling cycle (about 5 minutes) to appear once they reconnect.
  • Status not updating? Hypervolt pushes state changes over a persistent WebSocket connection. If the connection drops Joule Genie reconnects automatically — readings may be stale for up to a minute during a reconnect. Charger firmware updates can also pause reporting; the dashboard will recover once the firmware update completes.
