Getting Started

Connect your Tesla to see battery state of charge, plug status, and estimated range — and let Joule Genie start and stop charging at the cheapest times.

Step 1: Set Up the Tesla App

If you haven't already, download the Tesla app (available on iOS and Android) and sign in with your Tesla account. Make sure your vehicle appears in the app and you can see its status (battery level, range, charging state) before proceeding.

Step 2: Add the Integration in Joule Genie

In Joule Genie, go to Settings > Integrations > Add Integration and select Tesla from the Vehicle category. Enter the email address and password you use to sign in to your Tesla account.

Step 3: Select Your Vehicle

Joule Genie will connect to your Tesla account and list all vehicles. Select the one you want to monitor and optimise. If you only have one vehicle it will be selected automatically.

Step 4: Verify Connection

Within a few minutes the dashboard will show your vehicle's state of charge, plug status, and estimated range. When your vehicle is plugged in, the optimiser will schedule charging into the cheapest rate slots on your tariff.

Troubleshooting

• Vehicle not appearing? Make sure the vehicle is visible in the Tesla app and that your Tesla account is the owner (not just granted access).
• "Authentication failed"? Double-check your Tesla email and password. If you have multi-factor authentication enabled, you may need to approve the sign-in in the Tesla app.
• Status not updating? Tesla vehicles enter a deep sleep mode to conserve battery. Status updates may be delayed until the vehicle wakes — this is normal. Joule Genie avoids excessive polling to prevent battery drain.
